August is Child Support Awareness Month in Nevada, a time to recognize the vital role child support services play in strengthening families and supporting the well-being of children. Throughout the month, we celebrate the commitment of Nevada’s child support staff and highlight the resources available to help parents provide consistent support. Together, we remain dedicated to helping Nevada’s children thrive.
Child Support Enforcement is a family-first program intended to ensure families self-sufficiency by making child support a more reliable source of income.
The program goals are to ensure children have the financial and medical support of both their parents; to foster responsible behavior towards children; to emphasize the child's needs to have both parents involved in their lives; and reduce welfare costs.
Effective June 29, 2026, the U.S. Department of State will begin revoking passports of parents who owe $50,000 or more in past-due child support, using its authority under Section 452(k) of the Social Security Act. Parents who are out of the country at the time of revocation and need to return to the U.S. may apply at the nearest U.S. Embassy or consulate for a limited emergency passport.
If you are a parent and your passport has been revoked, contact your Child Support Office for assistance with ways to pay.
